SEO based content marketing is the long road to increased ecom sales. Ecommerce, especially on Amazon and Shopify is HUGE. There is no doubt. More ecom businesses are finally understanding the importance and value of good content marketing strategy. It can drive highly targeted long term traffic to ecom stores and that in turn, if everything works properly, will increase sales and profits. But how? Ecommerce is completely different from blogging, isn’t it?
“Content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing, and distributing content for a targeted audience online.”
SOURCE: Wikipedia – Content Marketing
Yes, but the fundamental basics are the same in both. Ecom is product based and blogging is content based. Mainly blogging is about driving traffic with SEO and high rank in Google search results via quality content marketing and ecommerce is about selling tangible and digital products.
Ecom companies are finally seeing the value of good content on their ecom store websites and are paying content creators to create quality useful content related to the ecom niche in the hopes that that content will drive long term traffic and sales via SEO and higher search engine rank and domain authority.
It wasn’t always like this. The traditional ecom model was simply to use PPC and other direct advertising strategies to drive traffic to their stores.
Over time ecom store owners have gotten wise to what bloggers have known all along.
That good content marketing is what brings in long term steady traffic and that equates to more sales and a bigger bottom line.
Over the past 10 years or so I’ve watched ecommerce business owners focus more and more of their “ad spend” on SEO content marketing.
It makes sense really. Long term organic traffic and higher search engine rank can be better than the short term traffic generated by paid advertising.
It makes your ad dollar stretch further.
SEO is the way to go.
This isn’t to say that paid advertising, PPC, and social media doesn’t work, it certainly does, but each traffic source is just another source of traffic. Content marketing is just another source of traffic, albeit long term traffic.
Regardless of the niche you sell in, if you’re not using content marketing to drive traffic to your store you’re losing out on lots of traffic. That’s money left on the table. Why would you do that?
A good eCommerce marketing plan also includes a solid and smart SEO content marketing strategy for the long term.
Quality Content Ranked High in Google for Long Term Profit
The bottom line is the bottom line. Spend some of your ad dollars on SEO content marketing for the long term and it will make your business stronger.
Learn how to rank your own ecom store high in Google by reading blogs like this one. Learn the ins and outs of proper SEO techniques. If you don’t have the time to do that and you have customers to deal with, then pay a qualified SEO service for their expertise. It’s ad dollars well invested. Again…if you don’t have time or skill to do it yourself.
Quality content will drive more traffic to your site long term than short term ad dollars
All things being equal the long term traffic you receive from high search rank in Google is arguably more valuable than ad spend. UNLESS you have lots of ad spend.
A high ad budget will always get you in front of more consumer eyeballs faster. Always! It’s a pay-for-play deal and it works. Want to reach more people faster? Pay for it! Want to grow your ecom store fast? Spend more money.
The higher your advertising budget the more people you will reach, and if you target the right audience and your ecom store sales funnel is perfect there is no substitute for ad spend.
Content marketing has 2 main goals
Driving long term traffic which ultimately increases sales and subscriptions, and that makes your business stronger. That’s it.
Dollar for advertising dollar, in my opinion spending ad money on content marketing is a better investment than throwing it at temporary traffic. Leads are important, but over the long term, perhaps those leads and sales that come from SEO are just as valuable as those that come directly from ad spend. It simply takes longer for content marketing.
Build your ecom site with a good blog. Use WordPress for your blog, even if you have a Shopify store. It’s better for SEO. Trust me! Just link to your blog from your ecom store’s main navigation menu. That’s enough for Google to crawl your blog and index all of its pages.
If you’re going to be in business online then you must have a good content marketing strategy.
Have a Good Content Marketing Strategy
Hire an SEO service consultant and content creators who know SEO. Don’t just pay a copywriter for content. Pay someone who knows how to write copy for search and high rank in Google.
Or learn how to do it yourself by reading this blog and others like it that teach you how to rank high in Google with SEO.
It’s what we do.
Here’s a tip. If you’re unfamiliar with how to rank in Google or how to create a successful content marketing strategy, do a search for it on Google, and study what those who are already ranked high in Google.
