How to leverage quality search engine optimization to build backlinks organically, increase page rank and domain authority, naturally with quality content. Forget about building backlinks. Backlinks will happen naturally if you have good quality content. This isn’t to say you shouldn’t build backlinks and drive traffic with guest posting, but don’t make it your primary backlink strategy. Stop doing the whole backlink thing. Focus on your content.
If you have good content you will receive more than enough backlinks organically because other bloggers and websites will link to your content naturally. If you’re spending all your time building backlinks you’re not focusing on quality content! Stop trying to drive traffic and focus 100% of your time energy and talent on creating useful quality content and you will be rewarded with organic backlinks and higher SEO which means higher quality traffic.
There is a big difference between high quality traffic and low quality traffic
The difference is the difference between success and failure of your blog.
Some bloggers will simple focus on driving traffic without any thought on the quality of the traffic coming to their blog. This results in lower quality email lists and subscribers and more time spent doing customer service because the quality of the customer is lower than if they had focused on creating quality content in the first place, which will in turn attract quality customers and blog traffic. See how that works?
The more time you invest creating quality content now the less time you’ll need to waste doing customer service and fielding complaints from customers later.
“But I’m a blogger, I don’t have customers.”
Yes you do.
For example. Everyone who signs up on your email list is a customer. They gave you their email address and they’re trusting that you’ll be responsible with it.
It can cost you more money or even your email account later on because of spam/abuse complaints if you don’t make quality your first priority.
If you create quality content to begin with you lessen your chances and percentages of bad customers/visitors to your site because you’ll be attracting quality people and bloggers with your quality content.
Building backlinks organically
If you have a backlink strategy then it needs to be this.
Create quality content! Create quality content! Create quality content!
Natural, organic backlinks will happen because your content will be good enough to link to. Other blogs will link to you. You won’t have to spend time begging for guest posts on someone else’s blog either.
This isn’t to say guest blogging is a bad thing, it’s not. Guest blogging is a proven way to drive quality targeted traffic to your blog and build backlinks at the same time. It is a WIN-WIN.
However, it’s time consuming and very hit-or-miss. Many bloggers don’t like the share their audience with other bloggers, especially those they deem as competition. In my experience, on average I’d get about 5-10 requests for guest posts per week, sometimes more.
Most guest post requests suck
Most were CRAP! Seriously. Their blogs sucked! Their posts sucked! Their content sucked! I’m amazed that they had the gall to send an email asking for me to associate my blog with theirs.
Not that I’m the world’s best blogger or anything, I’m certainly not, but I work very hard, thousands of hours to build my blog over many YEARS, and they want to use my blog to get a traffic boost, use my audience to grow their blog faster, and to top it off their blog sucks? No! Not gonna happen!
I don’t want to sound like I’m saying I’m better than everyone, I’m just a guy that knows how to blog. I’m good at it. At least my stats say I am, and the number of guest blog requests I receive speaks volumes about the quality of my work.
It’s insulting for bad bloggers to want to use MY audience and MY page rank authority I spent YEARS building. I don’t think so! Not gonna happen. I worked too hard to let people like that make money off my work.
I call them leeches. Blog leeches. Not comment spammers mind you, blog leeches are different. They have crappy content (or copied content) and they most likely know they have crappy content. They’ll spam stolen email lists full of other bloggers (I know they’re stolen because I didn’t give them my email, yet I’m receiving an email from them; and they used CC instead of BCC lol) and they’ll send out mass emails playing the numbers game, hoping to get just a few reposts of their content with a link back to their site.
Don’t work with lazy bloggers
These kinds of bloggers are lazy people who don’t want to work for their money or build their audience. Instead they leech off successful bloggers and try to siphon their audience and get better page authority by doing guest blog posts for big blogs. Leeches will get offended when you tell them their content is crap.
Sometimes they’ll get offended when you tell them you’ll need previously unpublished ORIGINAL CONTENT and for them to be allow a guest post it must not be duplicate content. In other words, you should always get exclusive rights to republish.
This is no joke! It’s both a legal thing and an SEO thing.
I’m diving too deep into the whole guest post thing, but it needs to be said. When you accept a bloggers guest post, make sure you secure exclusive rights to publish original content. This way you guarantee the blogger can’t come back later and say you “stole” their content once they get enough traffic and backlinks from you.
Some bloggers are sneaky and dishonest, and after a while, say a few months or a year goes by after they post their guest post on my blog, some bloggers will try to republish their guest blog post from MY blog (the one I have exclusive rights to) on their blog. They obviously think I won’t notice. I do. Every single time it happens. It’s funny really, but not funny for them because they lose ALL their content and links from my site.
They literally thought I wouldn’t notice that they snagged their post and republished it AFTER we already had a legally binding publishing agreement. This is low-class and don’t ever do it or you will be blacklisted. Seriously. It’s just not cool.
Building backlinks starts with fresh quality content
Spend the time and create new, fresh, original quality content. It’s not that difficult.
Anyway… (sorry about that, I’ll get back on topic now).
I couldn’t talk about backlinks and SEO without addressing crappy bloggers and duplicate content. Duplicate content will hurt you if you’re not careful. There are ways around it but that’s for another article. This post is about SEO and quality content.
“Focus on Search Engine Optimization when creating Quality Content”
To create LOTS of natural organic backlink and increase your domain/page authority, create quality useful content. It’s that simple really.
Useful content is content that teaches people, educates, entertains, and solves a problem.
Write posts that solve a problem; For lots of people!
The bigger the problem you solve the more backlinks and traffic you will receive.
You might even luck out and gain the attention of some very big news blogs and get a link back without having to ask, and that will show up in your Google Analytics very quickly.
You’ll be sitting there drinking your morning coffee scouring your Analytics (like I do every morning), and you’ll notice a spike in your site traffic. You’ll immediately check the Source/Medium and Referrals to see where the traffic is coming from. Then you’ll find out a big blog linked back to your post.
I’ve had links back from major blogs and news sites and watched my site traffic sky-rocket for a while, sometimes days, as people found my blog. Google finds the link too, and it’s awesome link-cred.
It really helps you with SEO. It gives your blog authority. It increases your ranking and page/domain authority. (notice how I switch up those keywords throughout a blog post; keep looking for these little SEO tips throughout my blog.) <—- see what I did there?
Quality Content = Organic Backlinks!
Blogging isn’t just typing a bunch of words, throwing in some links and hoping for the best. Take this post for example.
This post is designed to teach you how to build backlinks without having to spend time building backlinks.
When you focus on making your content the best quality content in your niche, you focus on solving a problem and are able to articulate a simple fix for a complex problem such as building backlinks and better SEO, then you’ll have created quality content that other bloggers will link to.
This will grow your backlinks organically.
Over time this all adds up and translates to more money in your bank account each month. And if you’re smart, you can retire on the money made from passive income blogging.
